Why Does Scorpio Man Disappear?

Today around the world on the occasion of BLOG ACTION DAY 2010 thousands of people posting about a single theme: Water. Here's my contribution.

The city of Lima is built on a desert.
"know which is the second city in the world after Cairo (Egypt), with increased water deficit? If we add the misuse of those who are fortunate enough to have water, we see that is a foolish waste.

The National Environmental Council - CONAM, said in a note 2007 that the country is wasted 42% (485 thousand m3) of total water, and Lima loses about 40% ( 224 000 m3) also of the total. This is alarming and more frustrating, considering that the month of Carnival is no longer a celebration of dance, tradition and colorful festivities to become a huge lack of respect, in which anyone can be "attacked" with balloons, buckets and water pistols (to say the least)

The following chart plots the average water use per person per day in some countries. Peru consumption is very high considering its dwindling water resources.

know ...

- A 5-minute shower consumes about 40 liters of water.

- a dripping tap can waste up to 675 liters (about a month S/.18.70)

- Each time you use the machine, it consumes an average of 60 liters (depending on the machine)

- A toilet in a poor state could lose up to 5,000 liters (S/.383.13)

- If you let the water run for 5 minutes to brush your teeth, lose about 10 liters of water.

But what can we do about it?
Following these tips can save and help our pocket and the planet:

- Enter a full bottle of water inside the toilet tank, this will save you up to two liters of water every time you pull on the chain (some toilets use up to 15 liters each). There are water-saving toilets that consume 6 liters per siphoning, or 9 liters less, and you can save up to S /. 31.17 per month.

- If you wash clothes by hand, do not let the water run while scrub. Use the necessary amount of detergent will not need to waste water to rinse.

- When cooking hard boiled eggs, save the water for watering plants, they will benefit from the nutrients released by the shells.

- Wash the car with a suitable container, using a cloth.

- Do not water your lawn excessively. Know your garden, in some districts is sufficient inter-day watering in summer and 1 time per week in winter. Water during the early morning or late afternoon, and will reduce evaporation losses. If possible, use drip irrigation systems or sprinklers covered by time.

- Check your toilet tank, adding food coloring to the tank. If after half an hour the dye appears in the bowl, means that there is a leak.

- Wash fruits and vegetables using a water container. If you do it with the open pipe will consume twice the water.

- Do not use running water to thaw food. Remove from the freezer the day before or use the microwave.

- While rinsing the dishes you wash, adjust the pressure to tap you really need.

- In times of rationing, verify that all pipes are closed so that when water is not wasted.

Cuéntame ... Did you have idea of \u200b\u200bgravity of the situation, particularly for the city of Lima? Do you have any other tips you'd like to share? Do you do something to preserve this resource scarce?
