WWF Peru is promoting this initiative in close coordination with authorities, businesses and media to homes, businesses and cities extinguish our lights and appliances demonstrate the commitment of all Peruvians to care for our planet and the fight against global warming.
Peruvian try each commit to do more for our planet every day of the year.
Why is it important to involve the Peruvians?
Peru is one of the most vulnerable to climate change, glaciers represent 70% of the ice surface in the tropics, but recoil from 20 to 30 meters per year, thus disappearing water sources our consumption, electricity generation and agriculture, and other resources.
Our population is concentrated in the coastal desert. Lima is the second largest city the world into a desert after Cairo, and while there have river Nile with 2800 m3 of water per second, we rely on the Rimac river that does not even reach 1% of this flow (and could be reduced)
To change the course of climate change we must act Peruvians TODAY , and promote through our individual actions national and global change. Disconnect teams that we are not using. We use energy saving light bulbs (75% reduced consumption)
